In 1926, Lotte Reiniger changed the world of filmmaking forever with the release of the first ever full-length animation film: The Adventures of Prince Achmed.
The film used groundbreaking animation techniques like the multiplane camera (that would later on be used and popularised by Disney) in a process so meticulous that it took her and her team three years to complete.
With exciting acrobatics, experimental shadow puppetry, and fast-paced fight scenes Akimbo Theatre take us to a dark and glittering 1920’s Berlin, where a young Lotte Reiniger was determined to become a film animator. Meeting an array of eccentric characters and following them to the most unlikely of places LOTTE takes the audience on an unforgettable journey through the streets and nightclubs of Berlin and the ups and downs of the artist’s life.
The story is brought to life by four lecoq-trained actors who together play over 16 characters.
